Edinburgh International Film Festival 2012

Edinburgh has many festivals of all shapes and sizes.

After a rocky few years the Edinburgh International Film Festival is often the one with the most gossip and speculation attached, but it’s also easily one of the most glamorous.

This year a new structure and a new director seem to be taking it back to a traditional festival affair. Red carpets, big names, glitzy premieres and award ceremonies abound. The popular Outdoor Screenings are again set in St Andrews Square, watch this space for the line-up announcement.

While I’ve only had a cursory look at the programme it bears a promising breadth of interest too. There’s a showcases of contemporary South American and Filipino filmmaking, some glossy retrospectives, and a look at Danish documentaries.

Have a look at the showreel:

The hot ticket though will be the European premiere of Pixar’s Brave. A Scottish fairy tale that will hopefully bring a fairy tale ending to this spring’s big show.

You can browse the full line up here. Tickets are on sale now, and going fast.
