Flashback: 2003

A decade ago I was living in a basement apartment, sleeping in a windowless bedroom-cum-cupboard; the through-path between my flatmate’s bedroom and the living room. My family referred to it as The Troll Hole with thinly veiled disgust.
A decade ago I scraped together rent for this palace by working 3 jobs, including the graveyard shift at a 24hour grocery store, and selling my video collection on eBay.
A decade ago I read my first graphic novel but mostly indulged in supernatural romance paperbacks.
A decade ago I had my eyebrow pierced and drove a VW beetle which I loved inordinately.
A decade ago I had never been on more than two dates with the same person.
A decade ago I was on the brink of turning 21 and had a subscription to Cosmopolitan (don’t ask me why I spent money on it when I couldn’t afford bread, I was and always will be an idiot).
A decade ago I had no idea what I was doing or where I was headed. That’s still true. But my goodness I’ve covered a lot of ground in the meantime.
Lord only knows where the next decade will take me…
