Travel Tuesday
The new house is finally taking shape.
And by taking shape I mean the walls are no longer bare.
I don’t know about you, but the powdery deadspace of cheap white walls leave me cold.
So at the weekend we hung pictures.
Paintings done by Bean’s sister. Vintage opera posters I’ve been hoarding. A pair of antique prints we bought in Bath years ago.
It makes the place feel so much warmer, so much more alive.
After much deliberation, we decided to theme all the living room art. As this is a transitional house, and on many levels a frustrating time of waiting, we wanted to convey a sense of motion.
We are going somewhere! [We’ve been some excellent somewheres too!] Our walls now tell stories of our adventures past and present. It feels hopeful. Aspirational.
In a fit of enthusiasm, we frugally decided to frame some of our favourite postcards instead of buying some proportionally appropriate artwork for the *cringe* feature wall [I hate decorating terms like that.] It was a big hunk of wall above the sofa. Now it is a big hunk of pictures above the sofa.
The picture alignment may seem like the handiwork of a college freshman jazzing up her dorm, thanks to bowed walls and a sloping floor, but I don’t care.
I am completely in love with it.
And to celebrate the joyous escapades these pictures and photos represent I’m instituting Travel Tuesdays: where I can look back fondly at wonderful places and people and journeys while we prepare for the exciting adventure ahead.
Bon Voyage!
I love vintage movie posters!
